Court heard offences included stolen vehicle, retail thefts, and assault
THUNDER BAY — Dalton Douglas Dean, 24, appeared in person in Thunder Bay court on Jan. 7, 2026, and plead guilty to a series of offences arising from several incidents in 2025.
Justice Malcolm McLeod imposed a 12-month suspended sentence, meaning Dean will serve the sentence in the community under probation conditions.
Stolen vehicle allegation tied to Pic Mobert First Nation
Court heard that on May 5, 2025, Dean was driving a stolen 2018 Honda CR-V. The vehicle was reported to be from Alberta and had been parked at a residence on 9th Street in the Pic Mobert community.
Retail thefts at Arthur Street West businesses
Court also heard details of multiple retail theft incidents in Thunder Bay:

On Nov. 1, 2025, Dean attended the Circle K at 600 Arthur Street West at about 6:15 a.m. and stole approximately $170 in merchandise.

Similar thefts were reported at the same store on Nov. 3, 2025, with merchandise taken valued at about $190 and $260, according to court information.

On Nov. 26, 2025, Dean attended Home Depot and stole Milwaukee-branded power tools valued at about $196, the court heard.
Assault investigated after welfare check
The court also heard that Thunder Bay Police were called to Spence Court (230 Amelia Street West) on Dec. 3, 2025, at about 6:20 p.m. to conduct a welfare check. During the investigation, police learned a woman had been pushed and assaulted, resulting in cuts and bruises. The incident was captured on video, the court was told.
Dean was later arrested while wanted on warrants.
Credit for time in custody and restitution ordered
The court heard Dean had served 34 days in custody, credited as 51 days.
