THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) reported a busy week for frontline officers, responding to 714 calls for service between December 21 and December 27.

Of those calls, 182 were classified as Priority 1, meaning incidents requiring an immediate police response due to urgent risk to public safety.

What Officers Responded To

TBPS provided a snapshot of several major call categories handled over the week:

  • Motor Vehicle Collisions: 54

  • Intimate Partner Violence: 35

  • Family Disputes: 22

  • Assaults: 22

  • Mental Health Act calls: 16

  • Break and Enters: 14

  • Weapons Calls: 7

Police note that weekly call totals often reflect a combination of seasonal driving hazards, ongoing social pressures, and persistent property and violent crime concerns.

911 and Dispatch Activity

Behind the scenes, the TBPS Communications Centre managed a heavy communications volume during the same period, handling 3,747 total calls.

Of those, 2,248 calls were placed directly to 911, highlighting the continued demand on emergency dispatch services in Thunder Bay.
