One woman dead, another injured in single-vehicle crash; Highway 17 remains closed during investigation

DRYDEN – NEWS – The Dryden Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred Thursday morning on Highway 17 in the Dryden area.

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 10:15 a.m. on August 28, 2025. The vehicle involved contained two female occupants.

According to police:

  • The driver was pronounced deceased at hospital.

  • The passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is receiving medical treatment.

Collision Investigation Underway

The OPP’s Northwest Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team and Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) are assisting with the ongoing investigation.

As of the time of this report, Highway 17 remains closed between Sandy Beach Road and Highway 72, and motorists are asked to avoid the area and follow detour instructions.
