Thunder Bay – NEWS – Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay is extending a heartfelt thank you to the Thunder Bay community after a devastating break-in at their Alexandra Street build site on July 18 left the organization without over $5,000 worth of essential tools.
Thanks to the incredible support of local individuals, businesses, and national partners, Habitat Thunder Bay was able to resume operations just days later. Donations came in quickly, replacing everything from power tools to specialized framing and cutting equipment. Notable contributions included a King Dual Fuel Generator and several DeWalt tools from McEachern Tool House, a $ 2,500 donation from the Carpenters Union, and a generous donation of professional-grade tools directly from Greenworks Canada.
“We were devastated at first,” said Matt. “But the way Thunder Bay responded showed us how deeply people care about building a better future for families in our city. Every single donation made a difference.”
This overwhelming generosity not only restored Habitat’s tool supply, it reignited momentum on this year’s home build for a deserving local family.
“This home means a fresh start for me and my kids,” said this year’s future Habitat homeowner Nicole Wiercinski. “When I heard the tools were stolen, I was heartbroken. But when I saw how the community came together to help, it gave me so much hope. I’m so thankful to everyone who stepped up to make sure our home could still be built.”
“We’re beyond grateful,” added Todd Davis, Interim CEO of Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay. “The outpouring of kindness reminded us why we do what we do. Thunder Bay showed up, just like they always do, and because of that, we’re building again.”
While the tools have been replaced, Habitat Thunder Bay is still working to raise $28,000 to cover increased construction costs and complete the 2025 home build. Every donation counts and will help ensure the home is finished on schedule.
