Winnipeg Police Seek Help Identifying Youth Involved in Serious Assault Outside Convenience Store

WINNIPEG – Crime News – Winnipeg Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect involved in a violent machete attack that occurred outside a convenience store on Portage Avenue on the evening of July 3, 2025.

Emergency responders were dispatched at 10:44 p.m. to the 1700 block of Portage Avenue, where a man had been seriously assaulted. The suspect, believed to be a teenager, fled on foot before police arrived. A passer-by quickly intervened, using a belt as a makeshift tourniquet to help the bleeding victim until officers took over with additional first aid.

The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition but sustained serious injuries. The suspect is described as a male, approximately 15 to 17 years old, 5’6” to 5’10” tall, slim build, with a light complexion and shaggy dark hair. At the time, he was wearing a black Tupac t-shirt, torn black jeans, dark sandals with white or grey socks, and carrying a grey backpack. He was reportedly accompanied by two other teenagers during the attack.
