THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay & Area Disaster Relief Committee is working this weekend to raise money for those impacted by the May flood in Thunder Bay.

Parvin Halabecki shares, “This weekend we have a fund raising project at the front doors of WalMart from 9AM to 6PM. For every dollar we raise , WAlMart will match it up to $2000.00.

“That means then that becomes $4000, and also the Ontario Government will match that 2 to 1”.

Parvin adds, “That means when we raise at least $2000 this weekend, we will have $12000.00. So…I would like to send a plea to all my friends encouraging them to make a donation even if it is only a loonie, because your loonie becomes 4 loonies. That simple. Remember the disaster is not over. We need your support. Please get involved. Thanks a bunch…”

There are many challenges out there. Some are suggesting that there are issues regarding how the funds might be spent. The reality is that right now those funds have not been gathered yet. There are some saying that a possible class-action lawsuit against the city is stopping them from making a donation.

The fact is that there are people in need, and arguing about why not to help them rather than helping them is slowing the overall recovery effort.

One of the neat fundraisers is coming from Fran Loney. Fran has challenged her Facebook Friends to make a $10 donation. In fact Fran is even picking up the donations if you wish. So far her personal effort has generated $1000.

There are lots of ways to help…
