THUNDER BAY – Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Chiefs and Executive Council congratulated newly elected Ontario Regional Chief Stan Beardy on Wednesday at the All Ontario Chiefs Conference in Toronto. “I wish him all the best in his new role as Regional Chief,” said NAN Deputy Grand Chief Terry Waboose. “We are confident that as a leader of the 133 First Nation communities, he will ensure that all voices from the different parts of the region will be heard and acted on.”

During his four-term, 12 year tenure at Nishnawbe Aski Nation, Beardy brought various priorities to the forefront, established vital literacy programs and technological projects and is leaving a legacy of accomplishment.

“As a colleague that I admire and respect, I look forward to seeing Stan further exercise First Nations’ authority and jurisdiction as Regional Chief,” said Waboose. “I know that he will continue to champion First Nation priorities particularly resource development and social welfare in the region.”

The current executive council will share the role and duties until the election of the new Grand Chief at the Keewaywin Conference to be held in Kashechewan First Nation August 15.
