SUDBURY — WILDFIRE UPDATE — One new wildland fire was confirmed in Ontario’s Northeast Fire Region on Tuesday, Sept. 29, bringing the region’s active fire count to two.
According to Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services’ 6:15 p.m. EDT update, the newly confirmed fire is not under control. The region’s other active fire is being observed.
Sudbury 64 Located Near Cranberry and Round Lakes
Sudbury 64 (SUD064) covers approximately 0.1 hectare and is located about one kilometre northeast of Cranberry Lake and two kilometres south of Round Lake.
The fire was listed as not under control at the time of the report. The update did not provide details about its cause or the resources assigned to it.
The Northeast Region’s active fire breakdown is:
- One fire not under control
- One fire being observed
Fire Hazard Can Change Throughout the Day

The map uses information from more than 130 weather stations across Ontario’s Fire Region. Ratings change throughout the day as weather information is updated.
A small number of active fires does not necessarily mean the fire hazard is low in every community.
Ontario’s Fire Season Continues Through Oct. 31
AFFES reminds residents that Ontario’s legislated fire season runs from April 1 to Oct. 31, with outdoor burning rules remaining in effect.
The agency encourages composting or using an appropriate local landfill to dispose of yard waste and woody debris.
For residents who must burn, AFFES provides these reminders:
- Ignite fires no earlier than two hours before sunset.
- Extinguish fires no later than two hours after sunrise.
- Keep adequate water and tools at the site to contain and extinguish the fire.
- Check with the local fire department for municipal restrictions and permit requirements before burning.

To report a wildland fire north of the French and Mattawa rivers, call 310-FIRE (3473).
For a wildland fire south of the French or Mattawa rivers, call 911.
