FireSmart Reminder for Homeowners

SFES is encouraging residents to review FireSmart Canada guidance—especially maintaining a non-combustible zone (0–1.5 m) around buildings. Keeping woodpiles, brush, propane tanks, and other combustibles well away from exterior walls and decks reduces ignition risk and helps firefighters defend properties during a fire.

Quick FireSmart tips:

  • Store firewood at least 10 m from structures where possible.

  • Clear needles, leaves, and debris from roofs, gutters, and around foundations.

  • Use non-combustible landscaping (gravel, pavers) near buildings.

  • Prune lower tree branches and thin vegetation close to structures.
