THUNDER BAY — The waterfront is about to come alive again—the 2025 cruise ship season officially sets sail in Thunder Bay on June 1, with a double arrival to kick things off.

The Viking Octantis will be the first to dock, making her return to the Port of Thunder Bay in the morning. That evening, her sister ship, the Viking Polaris, will join her, marking the start of what is expected to be another strong year for cruise tourism in Northwestern Ontario.

In total, four vessels will visit Thunder Bay this season, with 15 scheduled port calls, bringing hundreds of passengers and crew through the city’s historic waterfront.

It’s always an exciting moment when we welcome the first ship of the year. The cruise season not only boosts tourism but supports small businesses, tour operators, and the broader economy in Thunder Bay.

2025 Cruise Season Visitors:

  • Viking Octantis

  • Viking Polaris

  • Pearl Mist

  • Victory Cruise Lines

With cruise passengers often exploring Thunder Bay’s attractions—from Hillcrest Park to Fort William Historical Park—the arrival of each ship brings added energy to the city’s core.

Thunder Bay remains a strategic stop for Great Lakes cruising, offering both natural beauty and Indigenous cultural experiences that appeal to international visitors.

Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to head down to the waterfront on June 1 to witness the season’s grand opening and welcome the ships to port.
