One Person Killed, Another Injured in Late-Night Crash Involving Pickup and Tractor Trailer

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred late Sunday night on Highway 102 in Kaministiquia, west of Thunder Bay.

At approximately 11:50 p.m. on May 11, 2025, first responders from Thunder Bay OPP, the North West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) unit, Kaministiquia Fire, and Superior North EMS were dispatched to the scene of a serious crash involving a pickup truck and a tractor trailer unit (TTU).

Driver Pronounced Deceased at Scene

Tragically, the driver of the pickup truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle was transported by paramedics to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for treatment. The condition of the passenger has not yet been publicly released.

Highway 102 Closed for Investigation

As of Monday morning, Highway 102 near the Strawberry Creek Bridge remains closed to traffic while investigators continue their work. Collision reconstructionists are on site as part of the ongoing investigation.

Further updates will be provided as new details emerge. The name of the deceased has not been released pending next-of-kin notification.
