Today’s Outlook: A Chill Start, But Spring is on the Way!

SIOUX LOOKOUT & PICKLE LAKE – Rise and shine, folks! It’s a chilly but dazzling start to the day here in northwestern Ontario. As of 6:00 AM CDT at Sioux Lookout Airport, the thermometer reads a frosty -3.3°C under sunny skies. The air is about as moist as it can get with a humidity reading of 100%, so if you feel like you’re breathing inside a freezer, you’re not wrong!

The pressure is a very healthy 102.9 kPa and rising, a good sign that the beautiful weather is here to stay — at least for a little while. Winds are light from the south-southeast at 6 km/h, but with the temperature so low, it feels like -6°C. Add in a wind chill of -8°C this morning, and yes, mittens are still your best friends.

Visibility is excellent at 24 km — so crisp and clear you could probably spot your neighbour’s dog chasing its tail from downtown.

But don’t let the chilly morning fool you! The forecast calls for plenty of sunshine, with temperatures soaring to a high of 16°C today. By the afternoon, winds will swing around to the southwest at 20 km/h, helping to usher in that warmer air. The UV index will hit 5, which is moderate — so sunglasses and a dab of sunscreen are smart accessories today.

Looking back at history, Sioux Lookout has seen some crazy swings: the warmest recorded temperature for April 26 was a delightful 22.8°C in 1980, while the coldest was a bone-chilling -14.5°C in 1956. So today’s mild high feels just right!

Tonight will stay mostly clear at first before becoming partly cloudy overnight. Winds will ease off this evening and temperatures will slide down to around zero degrees.

Sunday: Cloudy With a Chance of Showers

Sunday will start off cloudier, with a 40% chance of showers sneaking in by the afternoon. Winds will pick up again, coming out of the south at 20 km/h and gusting to 40 near noon. Sunday’s high will only reach about 11°C, a little cooler than today but still pretty pleasant for spring.

Sunday night continues with cloudy skies and a 40% chance of showers. The overnight low will hover around +6°C — so not freezing, but you might want to shut the windows.

Monday: Rainy Days and Chilly Nights

Monday will bring periods of rain throughout the day with a high around 11°C. Monday night takes a frosty twist — there’s a 60% chance of flurries as temperatures tumble back down to -3°C. Yes, you heard right — snow might just make a sneaky return before April bows out. Keep those snow brushes handy just in case!

What to Wear?

Today’s wardrobe plan: bundle up this morning, then peel back to lighter layers by afternoon. Think cozy sweater with a jacket to start, switching to just a hoodie or light windbreaker later on. Sunglasses will be essential with all the sun bouncing around!

Sioux Lookout and Pickle Lake Weather Trivia:

Did you know? Pickle Lake is the most northern community in Ontario with year-round road access! So when the weather swings from +16°C to flurries in 48 hours, they just call it “a typical weekend.”
