A Frosty Start with Flurries and Freezing Drizzle Possible

KENORA – WEATHER – Kenora and the Lake of the Woods region are greeting Saturday morning under mostly cloudy skies and a brisk -5°C chill. As of 6:00 AM at Kenora Airport, the temperature sits at -4.6°C with a wind chill that makes it feel more like -7°C.

Humidity is sitting at 87%, and the dew point of -6.5°C hints at continued cool and dry conditions. Winds are calm but will pick up slightly to around 15 km/h today. The barometric pressure is currently 101.9 kPa but is trending downward, a sign of shifting conditions on the way.

Early risers may encounter a few flurries or even a touch of freezing drizzle, with a 30 percent chance of precipitation this morning. However, any lingering wintry weather is expected to taper off as the morning progresses.

By this afternoon, clouds will break and give way to clearer skies, and the temperature will rise to a high of 7°C. The UV index is a moderate 4, so sunglasses are a good idea once the sun peeks through.

Clear and Cold Tonight with a Hint of Spring Tomorrow

Tonight will be clear and calm, but still crisp. Winds remain light, up to 15 km/h, and the temperature will drop to -2°C. The wind chill will dip back to -7°C overnight, so don’t put away those warm blankets just yet.

But don’t let tonight’s chill fool you—Kenora is in for a stellar Sunday.

Sunday Brings Sunshine and a Strong Spring Surge

Sunday kicks off with bright sunshine and a noticeable warm-up. Winds will shift to the south and pick up quickly, reaching 30 km/h and gusting up to 50 km/h. Despite a cold start—with a wind chill near -7°C again—the mercury will rise dramatically, with a high of 16°C on tap. The UV index will rise to 5, making it the perfect excuse to break out those sunglasses and slap on some sunscreen.

Clouds will begin to increase Sunday night, but temperatures remain well above freezing with a low of +4°C—very mild by April standards in Northwestern Ontario.

Cloudier Days Ahead, But Mild Temps Hold

Monday will be overcast but pleasant, with a high of 13°C. While the sun may be taking a break, spring warmth is sticking around. Monday night brings a low of +1°C under partly cloudy skies.

Tuesday keeps things cloudy with a high of 11°C. By Tuesday night, the clouds may finally have their say, with a 40 percent chance of rain and a low around +1°C. It’s a typical Northwestern Ontario forecast—one foot in winter, one foot stepping into spring.

What to Wear

This morning calls for layers: a warm jacket, gloves, and footwear with good grip just in case that freezing drizzle puts a glaze on walkways. By afternoon, you might be safe switching to a lighter spring coat. Sunday is all about layers you can shed—start with a hoodie or fleece in the morning and be ready for T-shirt temps by the afternoon (wind-permitting, of course). And don’t forget the sunglasses!

Weather Trivia: Kenora’s April Extremes

Kenora has a long memory when it comes to weather, and April 19 is no exception. The warmest temperature recorded on this day was a beautiful 23.5°C back in 1987. On the flip side, the chilliest April 19 bottomed out at a frosty -14.5°C in 1966. This year’s forecast finds us right in the comfortable middle—and if Sunday’s high of 16°C pans out, we’ll be leaning toward the warm and wonderful side of the spectrum.
