Police Respond to Disturbing Scene Late April 15

Winnipeg – NEWS – Winnipeg Police have arrested a 29-year-old man following a violent incident involving a stabbing that left one man and a dog injured.

Around 11:35 p.m. on April 15, 2025, Winnipeg Police responded to a call from the sub 100 block of Winestock Place. A resident reported an unknown injured male at their door.

Victim and Suspect Hospitalized
Responding officers located a 23-year-old male with serious upper-body injuries believed to be caused by a knife. The victim stated he had been assaulted by his roommate at a nearby residence on Blackthorne Bay.

He was taken to hospital in unstable condition, later upgraded to stable.

Shortly after midnight on April 16, officers located the 29-year-old suspect at the Blackthorne Bay residence. He was also injured due to self-inflicted wounds and was transported to hospital in unstable condition, later upgraded to stable.

Animal Also Injured During Incident
Inside the home, police found a dog suffering from stab wounds, allegedly inflicted by the suspect. The dog was treated at an animal hospital and is recovering.

Major Crimes Unit Leads Investigation
The Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit has taken over the case.

Charges Laid
Dayvell KAKAKAWAY (29) of Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault

  • Causing Unnecessary Suffering to an Animal

  • Possession of a Weapon

He remains in custody.
