Winter Weather Travel Advisory Issued for Sault Ste. Marie and St. Joseph Island

SAULT STE. MARIE – WEATHER – Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for Sault Ste. Marie and St. Joseph Island. Snow, heavy at times, is expected to begin this afternoon and continue into Tuesday.

Hazards:

  • Total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are expected.
  • Locally higher amounts, potentially exceeding 15 cm, are possible over higher terrain.

Timing:

  • Snowfall will begin in the early afternoon for Sault Ste. Marie.
  • The heaviest snowfall is expected through the evening and overnight hours.
  • Snow will gradually taper off on Tuesday.

Impacts:

  • Accumulating snow may make travel difficult on highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots.
  • Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Safety Precautions:

  • Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
  • If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be prepared to stop.
  • Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
