Thunder Bay, ON – November 23, 2024 – Lakehead Women’s Soccer Club is proud to announce the first-ever Lakehead Women’s Championship Cup, an exciting soccer tournament that not only celebrates women’s sports but also supports an important local cause. This year, the tournament will raise funds for Faye Peterson House, a vital organization in Thunder Bay that provides shelter, resources, and support for women and children fleeing domestic violence.

The tournament, set to take place on November 23, 2024, from 5 PM to 10 PM at the Lakehead University Hangar, will feature teams from Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Chill, Superior Rush, and Confederation College. This showcase of local talent and community spirit is expected to become an annual event, with this year’s proceeds going directly to Faye Peterson House to support their mission.

“Our goal is to raise at least $1,000 through donations and community support,” said Anna Maclean, head coach of the team. “Faye Peterson House plays an essential role in providing a safe haven and critical support for those affected by domestic violence. We hope the tournament not only raises funds but also raises awareness about the services available to women and children in need.”

Community members are encouraged to join in by attending the tournament and making a donation to the event’s GoFundMe page, which can be found here. All proceeds will go directly to Faye Peterson House to help them continue providing shelter and programming that empowers families and rebuilds lives.
