Local Brewmasters Craft Unique Beer to Support Women’s Causes

Thunder Bay’s craft beer scene is buzzing with anticipation for the second annual collaboration brew in honour of International Women’s Day. Set to debut on March 8th, this special initiative brings together local breweries and suppliers, including Dawson Trail Craft Brewery, Lakehead Beer Company, Sleeping Giant Brewing Company, and Canada Malting, for a celebration of women in the brewing industry.

Empowering Women Through Craft Beer

Led by Ashley Watt of Dawson Trail and Alyssa Kwasny of Canada Malting, the initiative celebrates the contributions and creativity of women in the craft beer community. Watt and Kwasny, who conceived the idea over casual beers, express their enthusiasm for the project’s success and its potential for growth.

“Good things happen when strong, smart, beer-loving ladies in the industry come together,” Watt shares, highlighting the camaraderie and collaboration fostered by the event. Kwasny echoes this sentiment, viewing it as an “excellent opportunity for women in the local beer industry to connect, collaborate, and share knowledge.”

A Taste of Collaboration: Orange and Vanilla Wheat Beer

This year’s collaboration has produced an Orange and Vanilla Wheat Beer, with the recipe artfully crafted by Watt. The brew day, held at Dawson Trail Craft Brewery on February 16th, provided an invaluable opportunity for local women in the industry to collaborate, network, and share their passion for craft beer. In a unique twist, the project also includes a partnership with local artist Tallrat, who contributed the artwork for the brew.

Supporting Local Causes with Craft Beer

A portion of the proceeds from this special brew will benefit the Elizabeth Fry Society of Northwestern Ontario, underscoring the collaboration’s commitment to supporting local women’s causes. The release party, scheduled for March 8th at Dawson Trail Craft Brewery, promises a day of celebration, tasting, and supporting a great cause, from 11am to 11pm. Attendees can look forward to sampling the unique beer, supporting the Elizabeth Fry Society, and the chance to win exciting prizes.

After the launch, the beer will be available for purchase at Dawson Trail Craft Brewery, Sleeping Giant Brewing Company, and Lakehead Beer Company, offering craft beer enthusiasts and supporters of women’s empowerment a taste of this collaborative effort. This initiative not only highlights the talents of women in the brewing industry but also strengthens the community’s commitment to supporting local causes and fostering inclusivity.
