January 6, 2021 – Thunder Bay Six New Cases – One Death from COVID-19

Thunder Bay – Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is reporting six new COVID-19 cases in residents in the TBDHU Region. Another person has died as a result of COVID-19. There have been 22 deaths from the virus in the region.

That person was at the Southbridge Roseview Long-Term Care facility, where now twenty of the residents have died from the virus.

Southbridge Roseview reports, “7 active resident cases and 6 active staff cases. These staff members are currently isolating and recovering at home. It is with deep sadness that we share that 20 residents have passed as a result of this virus.”

Currently there are four patients in hospital and one in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

The total number of current active cases is 48.

Of the six cases, four are from close contact, two are from travel outside of the region.

There is a case at the Thunder Bay District Jail being reported. OPSEU reports, “It was related to Covid and an inmate being positive. And so far everyone is safe and PPE’s are in place.”

The TBDHU does not comment on individual cases.

17 cases have been resolved.
