Aggravated Assault at Highgate Road House Party Lands Hamilton Man in Jail

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – A Hamilton man has been remanded in custody following an aggravated assault at a weekend house party on Highgate Road that happened on Saturday, August 22, 2020.

Police say that Issa Becher BECHIR, 20, of Hamilton has been charged with Aggravated Assault. BECHIR appeared in bail court on Saturday, August 22, where he was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.

Police were dispatched to a residential address following reports of a major disturbance at an outdoor gathering.

As police were en route to the home, the occupants of two vehicles traveling toward the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre attempted to flag down officers. Police learned two people in these vehicles were victims of an assault that occurred at the Highgate address.

The victims were accompanied to the hospital while additional units continued on to the address of the disturbance.

The investigation revealed that multiple people became involved in an altercation during the outdoor gathering. During this altercation, two victims sustained injuries consistent with a stabbing.

Police at the scene identified and located a male suspect, who was subsequently arrested without further incident.

The investigation remains ongoing and includes members of the TBPS’s Major Crimes Unit.
