Police Charge Man with Arson Following Monday Fire on Island Drive

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police have identified and arrested a male suspect connected to an arson investigation Monday evening.

Police officers were dispatched to the bush area near the intersection of Island and Baffin Drives just after 6 pm on Monday, August 17, 2020, following reports of an active fire that was suspected to be arson.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue firefighters were also dispatched to extinguish the blaze.

When police arrived they found a motorhome was engulfed in flames along with a tent beside it. The property was situated in a secluded area of bush along Island Drive.

Police learned a male suspect had lit a tent on fire, which then spread to the motorhome. An investigation identified a male suspect, whom investigators located at a residential address in the 500 block of Hargrave Street just after 10 pm EDT on Monday, August 17.

The male suspect was arrested without further incident.

Trey CARLSON, 21, of Thunder Bay, is charged with Arson: Damage to Property, and Failure to Comply with a Judicial Release.

He appeared in bail court on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
