BERLIN – Bombardier Transportation will showcase its winning BOMBARDIER INNOVIA monorail 300 system for Cairo at TransMEA 2019 in Egypt on December 1-4, 2019. Focusing on mobility technology, the TransMEA exhibition is arranged under the auspices of the Minister of Transportation of Egypt, His Excellency Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir.

“To be chosen by Cairo for two new monorail lines is a great privilege for us and our partners,” said Ahmed Eldamanhoury, Managing Director Egypt at Bombardier Transportation. He added, “With its advanced technology, the INNOVIA monorail 300 system will increase mobility for Cairo’s citizens, reduce congestion and benefit the local economy as well as the environment: The two lines will transport around 45,000 passengers per hour in each direction when ultimate capacity is reached.”

Bombardier and its partners Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors won the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) and 30-year Operation and Maintenance (O&M) contract in August 2019 for the delivery of two urban monorail lines for Cairo. With operating speeds up to 80 km/h, the two INNOVIA Monorail systems will significantly reduce commuters’ travel times when operations begin in 2022 for phase 1 of the New Administrative Capital line and 2024 for the 6th of October City line. A 54 km monorail line will connect the New Administrative Capital and East Cairo to provide an end-to-end journey time of approximately 60 minutes and a 42 km line will connect 6th of October City and Giza City in a journey time of around 42 minutes.

Today’s cities are calling for easy-to-implement, cost-effective, low impact, high capacity, safe, comfortable and environmentally friendly mass transit solutions. The INNOVIA monorail 300 system is the best-in-class solution on the market today, allowing fast construction of high-capacity transit lines, and combining the service proven BOMBARDIER CITYFLO 650 driverless train control technology with the latest in wide-bodied, lightweight, aerodynamically styled monorail trains. Bombardier has previously installed monorail systems in the cities of São Paulo, Brazil, and Las Vegas, USA, as well as airport installations in Jacksonville, Newark and Tampa in the USA. It is currently delivering two monorail lines in Bangkok, Thailand (combined length 65 km) and two lines in Wuhu, China (combined length 46.8 km).

Bombardier has been a long-term partner to Egypt’s railways since the 1970s and successful in winning and delivering projects across the MEA region. In Egypt, Bombardier supplied around 50% of Egypt National Railways’ locomotive fleet, as well as turbo trains and fleet support services. In the Middle East, Bombardier delivered the highly reliable INNOVIA APM 300 system at the Dubai International Airport in 2016, a fully automated 1.5 km long transit system operating at over 99.7% availability and with the capacity to carry more than 200,000 passengers daily, and it is also supplying a fleet of 47 two-car INNOVIA Metro trainsets to Line 3 of the impressive Riyadh Metro which opens in 2020.

TransMEA is part of the influential Cairo ICT 2019 exhibition and its 2019 theme is “The Digital Experience”. At the show, Bombardier will present its latest product portfolio, including rolling stock, signaling, servicing and maintenance solutions using digital presentation tools, such as its Virtual Reality showcase. The Bombardier team will be available at the show to discuss the latest technologies, solutions, and industry trends, including digitalization, sustainability and mobility innovation.
