Solid pitching kept the Border Cats in the game early as they took a 7-2 lead

THUNDER BAY – Sports – The Thunder Bay Border Cats could well be primed for a super second half of the 2019 baseball season. Don’t let the Cat’s record fool you, this team is playing a lot better than the tally on the scoreboard shows.

Now, I am sure some of you are thinking I am just being a total “homer” supporting the home team no matter what but after attending a lot of the games this season, the Border Cats are in this reporter’s view ready to surprise a lot of teams.

The pitching is coming together, as shown by the selection of one of the Cat’s pitchers to the All-Star team. Pitcher Joe Moran of the Thunder Bay Border Cats has been to named to the Northwoods League All-Star Game and will play on the Great Plains Division team. The 2019 NWL All-Star Game takes place Tuesday, July 16th, in Waterloo, Iowa. Moran, a 21-year old righthander, from Anderson, Ind, has started five games for the Border Cats this season and is a perfect 3-0 with a stellar 1.40 earned run average.

Ever see the movie Major League? There is a scene where the manager comments that the team is coming together. “I think we’re a contender right now!”

That is in many ways exactly where the Border Cats are right now. It is coming together. It might be slower than some fans in Thunder Bay might like, this is a city that often it seems only comes out when the team is hot!

If it were not for the stand-up efforts of local investors, Thunder Bay could well be without the team this year. Getting out to support the Border Cats and the Northwoods League is a small price to pay for a really fun evening of solid entertainment.

The new ownership of the Border Cats has put together a fantastic family-friendly opportunity for the entire family. Tuesdays when the Cats are “Kid’s Night” with $2 entry along with $2 soft drinks and $2 slices of Eat Local’s Pepperoni Pizza. Think of it, for less than the cost of a Happy Meal© your child can have hours of fun.

There is a Kid’s Play area with games for the younger set.

As well there is a flurry of great promotional packages for adults too.

The Border Cats are doing their part to ensure baseball is a part of our summer sports package.

Now it is up to Thunder Bay to show our support to ensure years of success for the Cats.
