Facebook Message Leads to Aggravated Assault Charges

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to reports of a serious assault at a Laidlaw Drive home just before 6 am on Saturday, April 27.

When officers arrived they found paramedics attending to the male victim inside the home. Paramedics then transported the man to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment of his injuries.

An investigation revealed the victim and accused had been involved in an argument over Facebook messenger that night. At about 5:30 am, the victim was reportedly awoken by the accused who struck him multiple times with a hammer.

The accused was pulled out of the bedroom by another occupant of the home. The accused then fled the scene.

Officers located and arrested the accused man at a nearby gas station just after 6:30 am.

Skyler IVALL, 20, of Thunder Bay, is charged with Aggravated Assault. He appeared in court Saturday and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
