THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – Lakehead’s track & field team heads to Montreal this weekend for the McGill Team Challenge, making this the second weekend of official meets in as many weeks for the squad.

“This is the most competitive indoor meet in Canada,” Thunderwolves head coach Kip Sigsworth says, “and it features most OUA, RSEQ, and AUS schools. McGill is a great opportunity to test ourselves against many of the best athletes in the country on a fast track.”

Lakehead will be sending ten athletes. On the men’s side Braedan Prochnicki (60m and 300m), Derek Patterson (1500m and 3k), Will McDonough (1000m and 1500m), Colin Warwick (1000m and 1500m), and Isaac Lapp (men’s 600m and 1000m) will compete, and on the women’s side our racers will be Janet Chekwu (60m), Tia Lampo (300m), Rebekkah Pyle (1500m and 3k), Hailee Morisseau (1500m and 3k), and Haylee Beeman (1500m and 3km).

“I’m excited for the weekend,” Sigsworth says. “It’s been a few years since we have attended this meet, and it will be great to get back. The meet will have excellent fields, a fast track, and an amazing atmosphere, making it a great place to run fast.”

Rebekkah Pyle is currently ranked 9th in the OUA and 12 in USPORTS in the women’s 3k, and Braedan Prochnicki is currently ranked 9th in the OUA and 20th in USPORTS in the 60m.

“The goal is to be competitive,”
