THUNDER BAY, ON – The Confederation College Thunderhawks Women’s Hockey team was on the road for their annual Northern Loop Weekend, which saw the Thunderhawks play top teams across the region.

The team was excited to take on the Kenora Saints on Saturday, January 19, and the Dryden Eagles on Sunday, January 20.  Both games were close with the Thunderhawks falling to the Saints 2-4 and to the Eagles 1–2.  Great competition and high-calibre hockey were exhibited by all teams.

“The Northern Loop Weekend is a great opportunity to reach out to the northern communities through the love of Canada’s greatest sport, hockey,” said coach Peter Plummer. “Our team had a great time hitting the ice against tough opponents in Kenora and Dryden.”

Susan Tucker, Confederation College Athletic Director, feels that the tour offered the chance for people to see another side of college life and the opportunities that student athletes have at Confederation College. “Confederation offers a great education but there can be more to College than academics,” Tucker said. “The Northern Loop is an awesome opportunity to recruit Northwestern Ontario’s top athletes to our College and show them how fun it is to be a Thunderhawk.”

Both Kenora and Dryden teams had players who are interested in attending Confederation in the Fall.

The Thunderhawks will travel to Sault Ste. Marie at the end of February to participate in the 22nd Annual Ice Breaker Tournament and to Toronto in April for the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association’s Provincial Championships.
