Forest Fire Report

THUNDER BAY – The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has lifted the Restricted Fire Zone in place in the Northwest Region, effective 12:00 am. Aug. 29.

Outdoor fires are once again permitted though they should be carefully managed. For tips on safe burning practices, see Ontario.ca/fireprevention.

Cooler temperatures and recent wet weather have reduced the region’s fire load and the overall fire hazard. Presently there are 53 active fires in the region – 49 of which of which are under observation, under control, or being held.
