Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Atikokan Region

Weather Alert EndedAtikokan – Weather –Environment Canada has ended the Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Atikokan, Quetico Park, Upsala and Raith regions.

Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:

  • Atikokan – Shebandowan – Quetico Park
  • Upsala – Raith

Risk of severe thunderstorms toward midnight.

An area of thunderstorms is expected to develop over the Dakotas and Minnesota this evening and then track northeastward into the regions toward midnight.

Some of these could storms could contain locally damaging winds, hail, and torrential downpours.

There is also a risk for a tornado.

Environment Canada will monitor this situation closely.

Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
