KENORA – Smoky conditions in Kenora and area are the result of a fast-growing forest fire to the northwest of the community. Those with urgent health concerns should contact Tele-Health Ontario at 1-866-797-0000.

Located near the Manitoba border approximately 33 kilometres north of Wabaseemoong (Whitedog) First Nation, Kenora Fire 71 has expanded to 2000 hectares in size since the lightning-caused fire was discovered, July 15.

Waterbombers have been working to reduce the intensity of the fire along with crews committed to values protection. A contingent of 20 firefighters from Saskatchewan has arrived in Ontario today and will soon be deployed to Kenora 71.
