KENORA – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-Kenora Community Street Crime Unit with assistance of the Kenora OPP Detachment, the OPP Organized Crime and Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), the OPP K9 Unit and the OPP Provincial Operations and Intelligence Bureau (POIB), have charged three people as a result of an ongoing investigation into several property crimes in the City of Kenora.

During the week of January 10, 2018, the Kenora OPP received a number of reports of property crimes at businesses in the City of Kenora. It was reported that a large number of tools, industrial supplies, and several computers were taken from the businesses.   During the course of the investigation, other unreported property related crimes were discovered by police. On January 15, 2018, as a result of the investigation, police arrested a man and a woman in the Lakeside area of Kenora. Following the arrests, police located and seized a large amount of property that was determined to have been obtained through criminal acts on four different businesses. On January 18, 2018, a third person was arrested in connection with the crimes.

The value of the recovered property is estimated to be approximately $10 000.00. (see attached photo).

The investigation is ongoing and some property is still outstanding. The OPP would like to remind the public and business owners to report all property crimes, regardless of value, as they can be a small piece of a larger investigation. It is also important to remember that buying property that appears to be obtained through crime can result in the purchaser facing charges under the Criminal Code.

The OPP would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation and ask anyone with information about it or any other crime to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-222 TIPS (8477).
