Fundraiser Sets to Help Underground Gym

THUNDER BAY – On Friday, December 15th, École Gron Morgan Public School will host a flea market and bake sale at 5:00 p.m. in the school gymnasium. The school is accepting donations of flea market items and baked goods until Wednesday, December 13th. Local automobile dealerships have been asked to match any amount raised in order to help the Underground Gym to purchase a new van.

“When we learned that the van used by the Underground Gym to transport kids from various neighbourhoods to the gym had broken down beyond repair, we wanted to help them,” said Cindy Spackman, a teacher at Ecole Gron Morgan. “The grade seven and eight students enthusiastically responded to a request for help by creating posters, offering to bring in baking, and agreeing to help organize the event.”

Payless Auto has offered to donate the first $1,000 towards a new vehicle and has pledged to help with mechanical upkeep. Downtown Volkswagon and Balmoral Park Acura have also said they will help out in some way.
