LU Women’s Basketball Lose to Ryerson Rams

Toronto, ON – The Lakehead women’s basketball team (6-4) lost 81-62 to the Ryerson Rams (8-2) tonight on the road at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

Slow start for the Thunderwolves as they only scored 9 points against the Rams 22 in the first quarter. Lakehead went on to win the second quarter (20-16) but still found themselves trailing 38-29 at halftime.

Ryerson continued to push the score in the third with another 26 points and Lakehead could not recover, ultimately losing 81-62.

“When we play good defence we dictate and when we move the ball good things happen. There were some good things tonight but things didn’t go our way and Bin-Edward and Paska made us pay.” – Coach Jon Kreiner

Ryerson’s Jama Bin-Edward scored 21 points and Sofia Paska led all players with 23.

Bridget O’Reilly led the Wolves with 21 points hitting six total three’s. Leashja Grant had 11 points, 10 rebounds and Jerika Baldin had 8 points, 8 assists.

The Thunderwolves will be heading south to Florida on December 29 and 30 to play some exhibition games against Broward College.

The OUA regular season will continue January 5, 2018, in the Thunderdome against Guelph.
