Bantam Kings advance to Prospects Tournament semifinal

BLAINE, Minn. – The 4-0 Thunder Bay AAA bantam Kings have advanced to the semifinals at the North American Future Prospects Tournament in Blaine, Minn.|

After posting back-to-back victories over the Sioux Falls Stampede and Iowa Wild, the Kings will now take on Omaha AAA in semifinal action Sunday at 3 p.m.

In round robin play Saturday, Thunder Bay needed overtime to get past Sioux Falls 5-4 where Shaymus Stevenson won in extra time.

Matthew Valiquette and Sam Garon had first period markers to go up 2-1 in that contest while each side scored twice in the second, including efforts from the Kings’ Kohl Johnson and Noah Broughton.

After Sioux Falls scored in the third to send the game to OT, in what Stevenson that helped Thunder Bay prevail.

Brayden McKever faced 30 shots to pick-up the win in net.

Meanwhile, Gage Stewart stopped all 18 attempts he faced to shutout Iowa later in the day.

After a scoreless opening frame in that one, the Kings collected markers Matthew Valiquette and Nolan Desjardins to go up by two after two.

Valiquette then added another in the third to cap off the triumph.
