THUNDER BAY – LIVING – The Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel and the Staal Family Foundation were proud to announce the receiving charities of this year’s tournament. Benefitting once again will be Camp Quality Northwestern Ontario, along with the Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. New this year, Smilezone Foundation will also benefit from dollars raised. Anticipated funding raised at this year’s Staal Foundation Open presented by TBaytel, will support two Smilezone areas in Thunder Bay, located at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation and George Jeffrey Children’s Centre.

With many activities helping to raise funds for the charities, organizers are happy to announce that the unique Resolute Charity Walk is back as part of the tournament this year. The walk is in support of the Northern Cancer Fund and gives participants the chance to walk a three-kilometer route through the scenic Whitewater Golf Course; highlighting the best views and scenery that players on the Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada will see as they play their final round in the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel. Walkers will also have the exclusive opportunity to directly follow the final grouping of players as they make their way up the 18th hole for a spectacular and exciting finish.

“On behalf of the nearly 1,000 Resolute employees in Northwestern Ontario, we’re delighted to participate in the Charity Walk in support of the Northern Cancer Fund as part of the Staal Foundation Open here in Thunder Bay,” said Remi Lalonde, General Manager, Thunder Bay Mill Complex, Resolute Forest Products. “Our relationship with the communities in which we operate is at the heart of who we are; we want to contribute to a thriving Northern Ontario, with healthy people building healthy communities.”

The Resolute Charity Walk is open to people of all ages and families are encouraged to join in. Registration is $20 for those aged 14 years and up, and free for kids under 14. Registration includes the walk, a t-shirt, as well as snacks along the way. To sign up for the walk people can visit healthsciencesfoundation.ca/charitywalk or can register by phone at 345-HOPE (4673).

All registrants are encouraged to raise pledges in advance of the walk in support of exceptional cancer care through the Northern Cancer Fund and are provided with an online fundraising page to do so. This year, fundraisers have a chance to win two tickets anywhere Westjet flies, courtesy of Westjet. For every $100 raised, a ballot will go into a draw, which will take place following the conclusion of the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel.The Resolute Charity Walk will take place on July 16th at approximately 4:00 p.m, at Whitewater Golf Club, depending on the pace of play.

Over the last three years, the star-studded event has raised over a half a million dollars for kids and families battling cancer in Northwestern Ontario through the Staal Family Foundation.
