Fire in Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation is under investigation

Ontario Fire MarshalTHUNDER BAY – NEWS – At 6:00 PM on 18 April 2017 Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Service received an alarm for a structural fire on the 500 block of Montgomery Street.

The first arriving Pumper crew encountered smoke coming from the structure and filling the street.

A second alarm was called for and fire attack was commenced.

A total of five pumpers and an aerial ladder carrying twenty-one fire fighters responded to combat the fire.

The fire was quickly knocked down by an exterior attack from the rear door of the residence. Crews entered the structure and extinguished extension and spot fires. No one was home at the time of the fire but one pet succumbed to the smoke.

The home was rendered uninhabitable with the occupant arranging alternate accommodations.

A fire inspector attended the scene to start an investigation to determine the origin and cause of the fire. The cause remains under investigation though fire started in the kitchen.
