THUNDER BAY – March has arrived and we are hoping that means warmer weather and sunshine are around the corner.  Spring brings a time of new growth that seems to energize everyone after a long winter.  Thanks to our amazing donors, the Health Sciences Foundation has had a very busy few months with plenty more to come!

We were lucky to host and be a part of several events in the community over the past few months. Just to name a few were; the incredible Bearskin Airlines Hope Classic Curling Bonspiel, the Taco Time Cardiac Support Month, the Lakehead University Basketball and Volleyball Teams ‘Think Pink’ games, Quiz Night at the Red Lion Smokehouse and a Lasagna Takeout here at the Health Sciences Centre.  Thank you so much to all of those community members that run and host events and then entrust the Health Sciences Foundation to use their dollars to continually improve healthcare here in Thunder Bay.

At the Health Sciences Foundation, our fiscal year-end concludes March 31, which means we have been working hard on creating our Annual Operational Plan and Budget.  With that comes evaluating the previous year’s plans and budgets and designing a structure that ensures we can continue to raise funds to purchase world-class health care equipment at the  Health Sciences Centre.  We also look at how we can be more innovative and serve our donors even better than the previous year.  We are always striving to be best we can be!

April is a month of exciting Special Events with the first being the 19th Annual 5 Forks Bachelors for Hope Charity Auction, to be held on Friday April 7th at the Valhalla Inn.  We have 10 eligible bachelors and some fantastic packages that are ready to be bid on! I hope you will join me for this fabulous girl’s night out with 5 course dinner and lots of fun entertainment.  Tickets for this event are selling quickly but a limited number are still available, so get yours before they’re gone at healthsciencesfoundation.ca/bachelors or by calling 345-HOPE (4673).

Finally, we were honoured to be part of the launch of this year’s Fort William Rotary House Lottery.  I had the pleasure of viewing this new 1870 sq ft home at 424 Silverstone Place and purchase my lottery tickets.  WOW!   The foundation is delighted that once again Rotary Members, along with many volunteers will be selling tickets until they are sold out.  Proceeds will complete the Fort William Rotary’s leading $500,000 gift to the Exceptional Cancer Care Campaign.  We are excited that they are a partner with the Health Sciences Foundation, helping us meet the community needs at the Hospital.
