Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Thunder Bay Police report that on November 29, 2016 at approximately 12:30AM, a TBPS patrol officer initiated a traffic stop of a motor vehicle on Powley Street. Upon stopping the vehicle, the male driver fled on foot.

A description of the male and direction of travel was provided to other officers. Units checking the area located the male and after a short chase apprehended him in the 500 block of Cumberland Street.

Mahad Musse, 22 years of age was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Upon searching the male at the police station, officers located a quantity of cocaine and a large quantity of cash. The male was subsequently charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine. He then refused to provide a breathe sample as requested by the officer resulting in a further charge of Refusal of Breath Demand.

Further investigation revealed that this male had provided a false name to officers at the onset of the investigation. Once his real identity was determined it was revealed that this male was breaching a court order. The charges of Obstruct and Breach of Undertaking were also laid.

He appeared in court this morning and has been remanded into custody.
