THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thunder Bay North Stars forward Nicholas Nigro has been named its Play It Again Sports player of the week for the period concluding Oct. 2.

In three games over the weekend the 20-year-old Thunder Bay product scored and had points in each of them helping the North Stars skate to a trio of road victories.

Nigro began by picking up a goal in his club’s 5-3 victory over the previously unbeaten Dryden GM Ice Dogs Friday.

Saturday he night tallied twice as Thunder Bay won 6-5 in Fort Frances.

He then capped off his week by notching his team-leading seventh marker in regulation, added two assists and then notched the difference maker in the shootout as the North Stars edged the defending SIJHL champion Lakers for a second straight outing, with a  4-3 triumph.

On the season, Nigro has goals and points in each of his club’s five games this season while also boasting points in seven straight, along with tallies in six consecutive contests dating back to the 2015-16 campaign.

The veteran Thunder Bay forward also currently leads all SIJHL skaters in overall points with 10.

Also earning consideration for Play It Again Sports player of the week laurels were the following:

Braeden Allkins, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Connor Smith, (F) Thief River Falls Norskies; Sidney Gladue, (F) English River Miners; Kenny Hasbargen, (D) Minnesota Iron Rangers and Tyler Malpass, (F) Fort Frances Lakers.
