RCMP Arrest Two Men for Illegal Border Crossing

RCMPSAULT STE MARIE – As a result of reports received from the United States Border Patrol, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Sault Ste. Marie Detachment arrested two men on Friday, July 22nd, 2016, at approximately 3:45 p.m..

The Border Patrol reported that they had chased the two accused males on the train bridge between the twin Saults. As a result the RCMP and Canada Border Services Agency responded to Whitefish Island, next to the Sault Canal Locks and subsequently located and arrested two male subjects. Officers conducted their investigation and determined that neither of the male subjects had reported their arrival into Canada to the Canada Border Services Agency.

Charged is Gordon Earl HASSARD (25) of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, with Fail to present himself without delay to the nearest Customs office contrary to the Customs Act, and Fail to Appear for Examination contrary to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Also charged is William Ronald NISSEN (41) with Fail to present himself without delay to the nearest Customs office contrary to the Customs Act, and Fail to Appear for Examination contrary to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and Breach of undertaking.

Both Accused are scheduled to appear in court on September 19, 2016 in Sault Ste. Marie.

RCMP would like to remind the public that when returning from another country to Canada, that it is your responsibility to report forthwith to a designated reporting station to Canada Border Services Agency.
