Cumberland Street Stabbing Results in Charges

THUNDER BAY – On May 8th at 02:15AM EDT Thunder Bay Police responded to a call for assistance at an apartment in the one hundred block of South Cumberland Street. Thunder Bay Police arrived at the scene to find a sixty-eight-year-old man who had been stabbed.

Upon further investigation officers discovered that a female had apparently stabbed the individual in his apartment. Officers located the woman, and arrested her, along with another male who was in the apartment.

Alcohol is a factor in this incident, and both parties were known to each other.

The sixty-eight-year-old man was taken to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for medical treatment.

Police report that forty-five-year-old Meredith Achneepineskum now faces charges of aggravated assault and breach of her conditions of probation. Achneepineskum has been remanded in custody.

As well, thirty-seven-year-old Nazareth Kwandibens has been charged with obstructing police and assaulting police. He was released from custody with a promise to appear.
