KENORA – Ontario Provincial Police have responded to a report of possible human remains being found in Lake of the Woods in Kenora.

In a media statement the OPP report; “On Tuesday March 22, 2016, shortly after ‎8:00AM CDT, Officers from the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of suspected human remains being located at the end of Water Street in Lake of the Woods in the City of Kenora.

OPP report that the remains were discovered by city employees.

The investigation is in the early stages and is continuing by the OPP North West Region Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy Heida of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). The OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU) is also on scene and is assisting.

Police say that the provincial coroner has been contacted and is attending the scene this morning.
