DETROIT, Mich. – SPORTS – Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens are 1-1 after Day 1 play at the Two Nations Prep series event taking place in Detroit, Mich.

Thunder Bay opened up with a 2-1 victory again Team Wisconsin Friday before falling 3-1 to the Chicago Young Americans in their second contest of the day.

Against Wisconsin, the Queens rallied from a one-goal deficit by scoring twice in the middle stanza to pull out the narrow win.

Danielle Veneruzzo notched the tying tally for her side with assists going to Kaylee Grosjean and Paige Sullivan.

Grosjean then supplied the game-winner for Thunder Bay on a play set-up by Stefanie Hayward and Hannah Armstrong.

Bailer Chenier stopped 14 of 15 shots in earning the triumph for her side, who pumped 24 pucks on the Wisconsin net.

In the match-up with Chicago, the Young Americans jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play.

Emilie Varrin got the Queens on the board with an unassisted effort early in the second, but CYA added another a minutes and a half later to round out the scoring.

Thunder Bay outshot Chicago 28-24 overall with Chenier suffering the setback in net.

The midget AA Queens return to the ice for two more games Saturday.

Game action begins with a 9:30 a.m. face-off vs. the Brantford Ice Cats before concluding round robin play with a 3:30 p.m. encounter against Honeybaked of Michigan.
