St Catharines, Ont – LU SPORTS – The Lakehead University Thunderwolves men’s basketball team were handed a 76-59 loss by the Windsor Lancers on Friday evening in their first game of the RBC Classic, hosted by Brock University.

Windsor jumped out to a 26-15 lead after the first quarter, but Lakehead was able to stay afloat for the second, trailing 41-31 at the break. As time elapsed in the second half, Lakehead’s errors compounded on one another to snuff out any hope of a victory.
Lakehead was unable to execute much on offense, committing 29 turnovers (to Windsor’s 13) on the game. On the defensive end, the ‘Wolves allowed the Lancers to grab 16 offensive rebounds, which made matters all the more difficult.
“It’s disappointing to watch us make the same mistakes over and over and not learn from them,” said coach Manny Furtado. “Hopefully something clicks and guys start to understand what’s asked of them and deliver it on a consistent basis.”
Henry Tan scored 21 to lead the ‘Wolves, but struggled with his ball control, committing 7 turnovers. No other ‘Wolves scored in double figures. Rookie Mike Theodore came off the bench to grab 10 rebounds in 16 minutes of court time.
Windsor had three players score in double figures, led by Alex Campbell with 21 points.
Lakehead will play York tomorrow at 2pm. No webcast is scheduled.
