Thunder Bay, ON – Thunder Bay Hydro Electricity Distribution Inc. has made a rate application to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) to account for both “Regulatory” cost changes and “Distribution” cost changes expected in 2016. The application calls for a 1.3 % overall decrease in distribution rates for the average Thunder Bay Hydro residential customer. These rates are expected to be effective, upon approval by the OEB, as of May 1, 2016.

Customer Class

Residential -1.30%
General Service <50 kW 3.23%

Additionally, electricity customers across the province will see a number of changes beginning in January 2016. The expiry of the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit (OCEB) effectively increases bills by 10%. The removal of the Debt Retirement Charge for residential customers will offset that increase by differing amounts based on volume. Changes legislated by provincial bodies must be included in each application filed by local electricity distributors.
