TORONTO – ANISHINAABE – Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day Wiindawtegowinini and Premier Kathleen Wynne will sign a historic political accord on Monday.

Other witnesses will include Minister of Aboriginal Affairs David Zimmer and Chiefs and Grand Chiefs representing the Political Confederacy of the Chiefs of Ontario.

The agreement between Ontario First Nations and the Province of Ontario is being carried live. The broadcast will start on Monday at about 10:00AM.

Chief Day states, “This is not an ‘agreement’ – this is an Accord to elevate the importance of our people’s issues. The reality of it is this; the province imposes legislation like land use planning, health, education – all in the context of ‘provincial jurisdiction’ – we are saying this has to be re-framed. Canada is MIA because of its own constitutional peek-a-boo game that started through the division of powers. We must establish clear expectations in a new working relationship – at all levels”.
