Got Him – Thunder Bay Police Nab Suspect

THUNDER BAY – CRIME – Thunder Bay Police report that Uniformed Patrol officers have arrested the male involved in the weapons incident that had a large police presence in the Intercity Mall area this afternoon.

At 3:15PM EDT. a citizen called the police after observing a male match the description of the suspect in the area of Dease Street and McMurray Street.

Officer arrived into that location a shortly later and located a male matching very closely to the description of the male suspect that police were looking for.

While police were speaking to the initial male, a second male just happened to walked by. Patrol officers immediately noticed he was matching the suspect description exactly. This second male was arrested at 3:49 p.m.

During the search for the male subsequent to the arrest, officers located brass knuckles, a knife, an airsoft gun and a variety of drugs.

The twenty-seven-year old-Thunder Bay man is being charged with weapons and drug related charges along with breach of recognizance. He will make a court appearance in the morning.

Police advise that their nvestigation continues.

Intercity Shopping Centre Statement on Incident

Officials with Intercity Shopping Centre state: “The safety and security of our visitors, tenants and staff are our highest priorities.

“Our centre is offering its full cooperation to the Thunder Bay Police Service as it investigates a report that a man was acting strangely in the centre today.

“Following the report from an alert visitor to the centre – to whom we are grateful – police responded quickly. Police and centre management agreed that it was appropriate to fully reopen while police investigate further.

“The centre is providing police with surveillance recordings and the support of our security team. Further comment at this time risks undermining the police investigation. ”
