WINNIPEG – SPORTS – The Winnipeg Jets announce decisions on American Hockey League (AHL) team.

The Winnipeg Jets had planned at one point to move the team to Thunder Bay, but that required a new arena facility to be built.

Recent decisions in Thunder Bay have made that increasingly unlikely in a time frame to work with the team.

The new team will be called the Manitoba Moose.

Brad Andrews will be the director of hockey operations for the Manitoba Moose.

True North Sports and Entertainment’s Mark Chipman says, “It’s been 19 years since we introduced the Moose brand in Manitoba”.

The cost savings for the Winnipeg Jets should be significant.

“We wouldn’t be in the NHL today if it were not for the ‘Moose brand’,” stated Chipman.
