KENORA – Greg Rickford, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor), and Kenora MP has announced an investment to help the City of Kenora pursue economic development opportunities and diversify the local economy. Minister Greg Rickford said, “Our Government is proud to invest in key infrastructure projects that lay the foundation for business development and growth. Today’s announcement will support private sector partnerships that will create jobs and improve the economic prospects of the community.”

The FedNor investment of $360,000 will enable the municipality to extend sewer and water services to a new business development area on the east and west sides of Cameron Bay. The project will pave the way for private sector investment.

Kenora Mayor Dave Canfield said, “We would like to acknowledge the tremendous support from the Government of Canada through FedNor which is helping us develop a vibrant waterfront region that is attracting new businesses and critical jobs to the area.”

Quick Facts

  • Once construction is complete, the 17-acre-property will help the municipality attract more marine-related businesses in its drive to become a premier boating destination.
  • This project is expected to support 15 jobs during the construction phase and up to 35 new and existing jobs once the project is complete.
  • The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
