Snowmobile Fatality near Fort Frances

OPP Ontario Provincial PoliceFORT FRANCES, ON – A snowmobiler has died as a result of a fatal collision near Fort Frances. Officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police remain at the scene of a fatality. The fatality is the result of a collision involving a lone operator of a single snow machine on Lake Despair, located approximately 48 kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, ON.

On January 2, 2015 at 2:47AM, OPP and Rainy River District Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene. Upon arriving on scene, the driver was confirmed deceased.

The name of the deceased will be released pending notification of next of kin.

Local OPP officers continue to work in conjunction with the Regional Coroner’s Office, OPP Technical Traffic Crash Investigators and the OPP North West Region Highway Safety Division to investigate the collision.
