Thunder Bay Not Considering New Municipal Land Tax

THUNDER BAY – The City of Thunder Bay is stating that the corporation is not looking at a new proposed land tax. “This new Municipal Land Tax is not on City Council or Administration’s radar or agenda,” said City Manager Tim Commisso. “Something like that is a major policy decision that would require extensive work and implementation time – the City has not examined that issue.”

Following the release of a study by the Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA), certain local media and billboards in Thunder Bay suggest Thunder Bay is at risk for large scale job and economic losses if a new Municipal Land Tax is implemented.

A new Municipal Land Tax that has been used in other cities is not in consideration by City Council or Administration.
