SOCHI, RUSSIA – Canada’s Denny Morrison has made good on teammate Gilmore Junio’s offer to replace him in the men’s 1000m race. Morrison, now a three-time Olympic medallist captured a silver medal in the Long Track Speed Skating men’s 1000M event in Sochi. “What a fantastic story this has turned out to be. Once more Canada celebrates Olympic medal glory for Denny Morrison,” said Marcel Aubut, President, Canadian Olympic Committee. “The entire Canadian Olympic family congratulates him and his entire support team on this incredible result.” Yesterday, Canada’s Gilmore Junio offered his spot to Morrison in the 1000M event believing “it was in the best interest of the team if [Morrison] races,” Junio said. “To represent Canada at the Olympics is a huge honour and privilege but I believe that as Canadians, we’re not just here to compete; we are here to win. Denny has proven to be a consistent medal threat in the distance.” Canada now has 10 medals at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games (4 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze).
